Car Accident Advice

We hope you’ll never need it but this information has been put together to provide an easy to understand guide to what you need to do if you’re involved in a car accident.

Why not print off this guide, together with the accident form below and keep them in your glove box just in case.  It’s always best to be prepared, and this car accident advice may help you to remain calm should you be unfortunate enough to be involved in an incident on the road.

  1. Always stop at the scene. Only drive away if you feel threatened or in danger and call the police as soon as possible

  2. Dial 999 if there are any serious injuries, the road is blocked, someone leaves the scene or you believe there may be a liability dispute or if any of the other drivers appear to be impaired through drink or drugs. Remember to note the police officers’ name, telephone and report numbers.

  3. If your car is driveable move it slowly to a safe place or wait in a safe place away from the car if it is in the road.

  4. Call the Poole Accident Repair team immediately on 01202 733866 (even if you can drive your car). We can get you home, call your insurers and take care of all the details.

  5. All drivers involved must exchange details: Try to get names, addresses, telephone numbers, vehicle registrations, insurance companies and policy numbers.

  6. Make a note of the location, time and date of the accident plus weather conditions, traffic conditions and any other information you feel is relevant.

  7. Try to sketch details of the accident and note the directions of travel, collision points, vehicle locations, street names and any landmarks. If your insurer asks you to provide a sketch of the accident this will help.

  8. Try to note names and numbers of any witnesses.

  9. Note any additional information. For example, if one of the drivers was using a mobile phone.

  10. Use your mobile phone or a camera if you have one to take shots of the accident, the road / junction and damage to your vehicle

  11. Once back at home, your accident specialist will call you at a convenient time to discuss how the inevitable inconvenience can be reduced by:
